Embossing can be done with the embossing powders that you can heat to set, as in the white daisies in this close-up of some cut flowers, below left. It leaves a raised plastic-looking shape where the embossing is done. (The watering can below is also embossed this way- but the picture doesn't do it justice!) The gold dragon (center) is embossed on black paper. Or it can be the dry embossing done by pressing the image directly into the paper with a special tool and a template, as seen in the detail below, right. It gives a very subtle and delicate image.
Many things can be done with ribbons, wire and anything you can tie down. Ribbons can be made into a basic bow, or laid flat as the ribbon behind the flag in the 1st card below. Wire can be twisted into design shapes, or incorporated into the picture itself as the "cord" for the chinese lanterns, as in the 2nd card below. The lanterns were made with a technique called "crimping" and it can be used as versatile design elements as well. And in the third card, the wire was shaped into a hanger.
Various buttons, beads & charms can also be added. The star buttons on the card above, left- was actually sewn onto the card, though they can be glued down as well. And the baby shirt has itty bitty buttons down the front, too. Below are a small sampling of some of the charms I have. And trust me when I say SMALL sampling... I have many more- baby hands, large buttons, flowers, trains & cars, pink tiaras, ballet shoes, etc. The beads are described in more detail on the "scrapbooking" page, but the shorter ones can fit onto a card as well.
Eyelets are the latest thing in card making! They can be used simply to attach a layer of paper onto another in a much more interesting manner than simply gluing it down... or it can be used as part of the design itself. Eyelets also come in many shapes and sizes now, too. You can find butterflies, bunnies, eggs, stars, chicks, hearts, clovers, feet, etc. The first card at the top of the page has a simple round eyelet on the 'for you' tag. Some samples of eyelets and their uses are also seen in the details below.
Vellum can be added as in the sample above, center- and attached with eyelets.
Vellum can also be pre-printed as well as available in many colors.
Glitter and glitz can be added by simply gluing bits of glitter onto a card, or with other shiny objects, such as metal charms, or colored foil- as in the 'chocolate bar' to the left.
Please take a look at the Limited Edition page for some new gold pieces that are now being used on cards!
